ANNAPOLIS, MD — A new Student Health and Wellness Center opened last week at the downtown Annapolis campus of St. John's College.

The newly renovated facility will offer students primary care, women's health, immunizations, counseling and psychiatry services.

"Expanding student support and ensuring our students feel safe and ready to learn is a major priority for the college," College President Nora Demleitner said in a press release. "That starts with excellent wellness and mental health services. I am proud that St. John's College is at the vanguard, and I believe that these services can and should be the norm across the country."

The center also has a 24/7 crisis hotline available to all students. Staff members are trained in crisis management along with a suicide-specific treatment framework called Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality.

The facility will similarly host wellness workshops and participate in health-related outreach events on campus.

"We understand that student wellness is an essential component in student thriving," said Danielle Lico, the executive director of Campus Health and Wellness. "The new, central location allows us to more effectively provide services and supports the collaboration required within our providers to address the health and wellness concerns of our students."

Students, faculty, staff and community partners attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Sept. 28. The grand opening celebration included tours, presentations from community partners, a group art project, visits from therapy dogs and yoga demonstrations.
