"I am very excited to get started as the leader of St. Mary's Schools," Andrew Moore said. Moore also is the coordinator of NDMU's graduate program in gifted and talented education. In that capacity, he trains elementary and secondary school teachers.
Before NDMU, Moore spent 21 years at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, where he taught French, history and humanities and was the director of the Calvert Hall McMullen Scholars Program. He's also been a consultant, adviser and coach at the Townson school.
In fact, Moore spent 14 seasons at Calvert Hall's varsity soccer coach. His teams won two A Conference titles and in 2002, he was named Maryland State Boys Soccer Coach of the Year.
St. Mary's leadership said Moore was selected because of an "impressive and extensive background," and described him as "a champion of Catholic education."
"This is certainly an exciting time for our community. I have no doubt that Dr. Moore's faith, vision and impressive background in Catholic education will help guide St. Mary's into the future and help make St. Mary's a better place to learn and worship," said Father Patrick Woods, pastor at St. Mary's.
Moore earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and French from Dickinson College in Pennsylvania, a Master's Degree in French History at York University in Toronto and a Ph.D in Atlantic History from the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C.
