Stormy MD Weather To Make For Gloomy Mother's Day Weekend
Mother's Day weekend has the potential for heavy rainfall across much of Maryland. Here's what to expect, and when.
MARYLAND — Another weekend, another series of thunderstorms bringing heavy rains, strong winds and even possible flooding are predicted for much of Maryland throughout much of Mother's Day weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for northern and central Virginia, and central and western Maryland predicting a period or two of heavy rain is possible from Friday afternoon into Monday. There is the potential for localized flooding of small streams, roadways and areas of poor drainage, according to the forecast.
An isolated severe thunderstorm with damaging wind gusts is possible Friday afternoon and evening, the weather service said. Locally heavy rain with isolated incidents of flooding are possible Saturday night through Monday.

The region could see 2 to 3 inches of rain, The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang says. "It will not rain continuously, and some models suggest rain could ease or pause for a portion of the day Sunday. So Sunday won’t necessarily be a washout, but it will be damp and cool, with highs barely topping 60," the newspaper writes.

Friday Afternoon: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 5pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 11 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 11pm and 2am. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 57. Southwest wind around 8 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday: A chance of rain, mainly after 2pm. Cloudy, with a high near 67. North wind 5 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Saturday Night: Rain likely, mainly after 8pm. Patchy fog. Otherwise, cloudy, with a low around 54. East wind around 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Sunday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 62. East wind around 9 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
Sunday Night: Rain. Low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
Monday: Rain likely before 8am, then a chance of showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Monday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
