Teen Bicyclist Seriously Hurt in Crash With Pickup Truck

Annapolis traffic was tied up Thursday afternoon in part by an accident between a bike and a pickup truck. The teen was flown to a hospital.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — A bicyclist was seriously injured Thursday afternoon when he was hit by a pickup truck on Forest Drive, Annapolis Police said.

The accident at Youngs Farm Road happened just after 3 p.m. and closed Forest Drive until 6:45 p.m., aggravating traffic problems in the city during busy Commissioning Week.

The biker is a 15-year-old boy who was not wearing a helmet; police said he suffered serious head and facial injuries. The teen was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

Preliminarily it appears bicyclist error was a factor in this crash, investigators said. Authorities have not released the name of the bicyclist or truck driver.

The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene.
