'KKK' Twitter Threats Bring More Police to 2 Anne Arundel High Schools

Extra police officers are at Annapolis and Arundel high schools Tuesday after 2 Twitter threats of violence by "KKK" handles reported.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Extra police officers are at Annapolis and Arundel high schools Tuesday after another racial threat of violence was reported in the county's school system. On Monday night, a Twitter user under the name "kkkforeal" threatened violence at Annapolis High School, although police say the threat is not credible.

But, Anne Arundel County Police are taking precautions, including having extra officers at the two schools, where racist comments have surfaced in recent days. On Friday, a racist anti-African American petition was shared by a few students at Arundel High School in Gambrills. There is absolutely no room in the public schools for the racist language contained on the so-called "Kool Kids Klan" petition, school leaders and county officials said.

Police said while the petition was "reprehensible" it is not a crime.

In the threat made at Annapolis, the user tweeted at the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Twitter account that it was "blowing up Annapolis High school." It also wrote that "black (expletive) better run!!" reports the Capital-Gazette.

Anne Arundel County Police spokesman Marc Limansky says the department is investigating the threat, but there is nothing to indicate it is credible. Additional officers are at the schools to ensure the safety and well-being of the students.

Limansky says police believe the threat toward Annapolis is a copy-cat action from Friday's incident at Arundel High School.
