Trio Galilei performs Irish, Scottish, traditional and original music June 26 in Annapolis

Enjoy Irish, Scottish, traditional & original music that is peaceful/beautiful and has been performed for Wounded Warriors at Walter Ree

On Friday, June 26 at 8 pm, Trio Galilei kicks off the summer concert season at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis with early music from Ireland and Scotland, as well as some of their own original pieces. Since 2008, two of the Trio, Carolyn Surrick (viola da gamba) and Ginger Hildebrand (guitar and fiddle) have played for the Wounded Warriors and their families at Walter Reed Hospital. The third member, Abbie Palmer (Celtic harp), joined them last fall. It is work that they love, and through it they have developed a beautiful, peaceful repertoire that they will share in Annapolis as part of the Fourth Friday Concert Series with Brian Ganz and Friends.

The concert will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Annapolis, 333 Dubois Road in Annapolis. Tickets are $15 at the door. For more information, visit www.tinyurl.com/UUCA-concerts or call 410-266-8044.

Their music for the Wounded Warriors has been diverse, ranging from traditional music from America, Sweden, Scotland, Ireland, and the Baroque period. Although the music itself has been described as peaceful by the warriors, it is the trio’s musicianship, their ability to communicate with each other and with their audience that defines their performances as joyful experiences. In the beginning, their goal was to “make one person’s day better - a task that was easier on some days than on others. They persevered, built relationships, laughed at some very dark jokes told by people in wheelchairs, made thousands of CD’s and gave them away, found funding to keep going, and are still playing every Friday at the Warrior Cafe at Walter Reed. The Trio is said to be “changing the world, one person at a time.”
