The wire service says Scott’s 1979 Cessna left the Sheridan, WY, airport headed for Billings, MT. After a detour from its flight path to circle Yellowstone, Scott was told to climb to 14,800 feet. The plane suddenly turned east and went into a rapid descent, the AP says.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating.
