Two Cyclists Hit By Car; One Remains Hospitalized
Cyclists were struck on Route 450 in Annapolis when the driver of the vehicle crossed into the right shoulder. Police suspect alcohol played a role.
Two cyclists were seriously injured, one suffering life-threatening injuries, when a driver suspected of drinking and driving crossed onto a bike lane, striking both riders.
Anne Arundel County Police responded to the crash on southbound Route 450 near Brice Lane in Annapolis around 2 p.m. Saturday.
Robin Vera Colbert, 54, of Annapolis was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima and failed to stay within the lanes. According to police, Colbert crossed the right edge line into the right shoulder marked as a bike trail, striking Todd Eliot Green, 27, of Severna Park and Katie Christine Pohler, 23, of Glen Burnie.
The shoulder area is marked as the Baltimore & Annapolis Trail and both Green and Pohler were properly using the trail portion of the road, police say.
Greene suffered serious injuries in the crash. Pohler’s injuries were life-threatening, according to police. Both were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma.
Green has since been released from the hospital, reports WJZ TV, and Pohler is listed in stable condition.
Colbert was not injured in the accident and police say alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident. Charges are pending.
