BAY-CSS is a leader of services to people with disabilities throughout Southern and Central Maryland. Our services promote the ability of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities to live and work successfully in their communities. Come be a part of our important mission! Quality Assurance members play a valuable role helping us to enhance and maintain the quality of our services. Harvest for the Hungry, Oct. 13-31, 2014
The Volunteer Center for Anne Arundel County in cooperation with the Arundel County Public Schools Central Office Campaign is collecting nonperishable food and plastic/paper items (no glass, please) at its Heritage Office Complex location in the lobby at 2666 Riva Rd., Annapolis, MD., 7:00 am – 6:00 pm Mon. – Fri. The collected items are donated to the Anne Arundel County Food and Resource Bank. Cash donations are also being accepted. Historic Annapolis Foundation Annapolis by Candlelight Tour, Nov. 7-8, 2014
A large number of volunteers are needed for the following event:
4:30–9:15 p.m., Fri. & Sat., Nov. 7 & 8, 2014, the 23rd Annual Annapolis by Candlelight Tour:
Historic Annapolis is pleased to introduce you to some of the city’s finest architecture in this annual walking tour of private homes. A large number of volunteers, age 16 and up, are needed and will be placed in different rooms in different homes informing visitors about the history of the home and the objects inside, helping to direct the flow of visitors through the home. Each home is staffed by an HAF volunteer known as a House Captain who will provide information about the home to volunteers upon their arrival for their shift. Volunteers are asked to work a single shift on either Fri., Nov. 7th, or Sat., Nov. 8th. To ensure all houses are staffed and ready to open promptly and to guarantee that shift changes occur smoothly, shifts will be from 4:30 p.m.–7:15 p.m. & from 6:45 p.m. –9:15 p.m. House Captains will receive two additional complimentary tour tickets. Historic Annapolis: Historic Hauntings Tours, Weekends in October, 2014
Volunteers are needed on weekend nights for the following special event:
7:00-9:30 p.m., Friday and Saturdays in October, 2014, Historic Hauntings Tours:
This October, instead of heading to the usual “haunted house”, come with Historic Annapolis and Watermark on a ghost tour of Maryland’s capital city. This special Historic Hauntings tour takes guests inside the William Paca House, one of Annapolis’s most storied old mansions, and into its “sick room”. International Environmental Data Rescue Organization
IEDRO is a nonprofit whose mission is to locate, rescue and digitize every piece of historic environmental data before it is lost forever. The old data when digitized and provided to the world’s scientists, researchers and educators will save more lives throughout the world than a cure for cancer, HIV and heart disease combined. Needed are volunteer part-time office manager, writers, JAVA & PYTHON Programmers, grant writers, translators (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Italian, Russian, Farsi), newsletter deputy editor, keying volunteers, presenters/lecturers, meteorologists, hydrologists, climatologists, earth scientists, teachers/educators, PowerPoint experts, and those familiar with twitter, Facebook, blogs and other modern communication devices and systems. Lifeline 100 Century Ride & Community Health Fair at Kinder Farm Park,Sun., October 19, 2014
Bicycle Advocates for Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BikeAAA) in partnership with Anne Arundel County Police and Recreation & Parks Dept. is hosting the Lifeline100 with 100, 56, 15 (trail only) mile rides and a free children’s bike rodeo and family fun ride. Bike routes will wind throughout scenic Anne Arundel County including downtown Annapolis, the Severn River, southern Anne Arundel County, BWI/Marshall airport and the B&A Trail. There will also be a free, all-day, “Make Health Happen” community health fair by theHealthy Anne Arundel Coalition that day, all at Kinder Farm Park in Millersville; the fair will offer health screenings, fun activities for kids, families and more. Volunteers, sponsors, and participants are being sought for this event. Volunteers are needed to help with parking, registration, rest stops, SAG support, at the Health Fair, children’s rodeo, and more. Maryland Hall for the Performing Arts
Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts has openings in several volunteer positions. Currently the opportunities include performing arts ushering, special events, visual arts and some office assistance. · 5:30 – 7:30pm Thurs., Oct. 16, 2016, Usher Training: Volunteers who cannot make this training will have the opportunity to attend a daytime training later in the month.
Spa Creek Conservancy
The Spa Creek Conservancy and the Parole community will come together to celebrate the completion of two stormwater retrofit projects with volunteer planting days at two churches in Annapolis. Hundreds of native perennials will be planted. Many volunteers, of all ages, are needed to join others already committed to help including Church members , the County’s Watershed Stewards Academy, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Annapolis, and Spa Creek Conservancy volunteers.
