Weapons, Drug Charges Filed Against 2 Annapolis Men

Annapolis Police stopped a car to arrest a wanted man and ended up charging two men with cocaine trafficking.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Two Annapolis men face drug-trafficking and weapons charges after a traffic stop May 2, authorities say.

About 11:45 a.m. that day, Annapolis Police officers saw Craig Ireland, 21, of Annapolis at Clay and Pleasant streets. The patrol officers knew that Ireland was the subject of an open arrest warrant for a violation of probation in a second-degree assault conviction.

Officers responded Ireland, who was the passenger in a vehicle on Pleasant Street. Police saw suspected crack cocaine on the center console of the vehicle.

Ireland was arrested and searched by police, who found a loaded handgun in his jacket pocket.

The suspected cocaine on the center console of the vehicle had a total weight of 2.9 grams and field-tested positive for cocaine. An additional 1.3 grams of suspected crack cocaine was recovered when it dropped to the ground after the driver got out of the vehicle.

Curtis Dorsey, 47, of Annapolis, the vehicle’s driver, was arrested and charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of crack cocaine.

Ireland was also charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and possession of crack cocaine, as well as six criminal counts relating to the handgun possession. He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on $50,000 bond.

Dorsey was released from the Jennifer Road Detention Center after posting $50,000 bond.
