Westbound Bay Bridge Traffic Delays Of 3 Miles Expected Thursday

Drivers should expect traffic backups of more than three miles when traveling westbound on the Bay Bridge Thursday, officials warn.

The westbound center lane of the Bay Bridge will be closed Nov. 7 so crews can pour concrete, which likely will cause delays and backups.

ANNAPOLIS, MD — The center lane of the westbound Bay Bridge will be closed Thursday, Nov. 7, from 11 a.m. until 2:45 p.m. Because of impending weather, crews likely cannot pour concrete for the next few days, so they will be quickly pouring concrete Thursday while the weather cooperates, highway officials said.

Also, the overlay sections in this work zone are longer, about 270 feet, and require an estimated 3.5 hours to pour, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Westbound backups could potentially reach 3 miles, requiring an additional 25 to 30 minutes to cross the bridge, the MDTA said.

The department suggested drivers plan for delays or leave earlier than usual to accommodate for the potential traffic issues. Also, wide loads (permit vehicles greater than 10 feet wide) are restricted due to the 11-foot lanes and should adjust westbound travel times.
