ANNAPOLIS, MD — Columbus Day is that relatively odd holiday during which some traditional closings are the norm — unless they're not.

Here's a brief rundown of what's open and what's not Monday, Oct. 9, in Anne Arundel County:

Government offices
It's a federal holiday, so federal and state government offices will be closed. County offices and city of Annapolis offices are open. The Annapolis City Council meets at 7 p.m.

Oct. 9 is a normal school day for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

Garbage collection
There is no change in the normal trash pickup schedule.

Post offices
The day is a holiday for postal workers, so don’t expect mail delivery and your local post office is closed.

Banks
Most banks are closed for Columbus Day, with a few exceptions, including Wells Fargo and TD Bank.

Grocery and retail stores
Major grocery store chains will operate normal hours on Monday, as will retailers like Target and Walmart.
