Marriott International ranked seventh nationally and first in Maryland. According to survey results, 86 percent of employees said the hospitality company is a great place to work.
"The company culture is fantastic. We lift each other up instead of breaking each other down. I truly appreciate that mindset because I think we only get better, both personally and professionally, which leads to a better place to work and a more successful company," an employee said.
"Mr. Marriott has always said that if you treat your associates well, your associates will treat your guests well and your guests will keep coming back. I see that in action every day."
To be considered for the Fortune list, companies must employ at least 1,000 workers in the U.S. and be certified by Great Place to Work.
This year's rankings were based on feedback from more than 1.3 million employees nationwide. Only companies with consistently high responses across 60 survey statements earned placement on the list, according to Fortune.
