Nearly 700 turn out for St. Charles Running Festival, raising close to $30K

Hospice of the Chesapeake was honored once again to be included as the official charity partner for the St. Charles Running Festival, presented by Lennar. Hundreds of runners, walkers and neighbors gathered on Sept. 12 at the Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Maryland, for a morning of competition, camaraderie and community giving. The 10K, 5K and post-race Taste of Southern Maryland food truck festival capped off a day that organizers say reinforced the event's place as a growing Waldorf tradition

Highlights of the day included honoring the overall winners of the 10K race: the overall male champion Eric Song, who crossed the finish line first with a time of 40:18, and Emmaline Pendleton, the overall female champion, who clocked in at 43:14. The overall winners of the 5K race were male champion Ibrahim Al Qaabil with a time of 20:34 and female champion Sheri Wilson with a time of 26:18.

Once again, the festival rallied to raise tens of thousands of dollars for its official charity partner. With nearly 700 participants and many generous sponsors, the event delivered nearly $30,000 to support patients and families facing serious illness and grief in Charles County. This success was made possible by Hospice of the Chesapeake's Premier Sponsor, the Brian and Patricia Giese Foundation, as well as Community Partner and Finish Line Sponsor University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, Champion Sponsor Waldorf Toyota and Stride Sponsor SMECO.

"The generosity we saw today will go straight to the patients and families who rely on us," said Heather Marchese, Director of Philanthropy. "We're grateful to every runner, volunteer and sponsor who showed up for this cause, and we're especially thankful to Corrigan Sports Enterprises, and its president Lee Corrigan, for including Hospice of the Chesapeake once again as the official charity partner. We're already looking forward to continuing this tradition again next year."
