Did you know the unemployment and underemployment rate of people with developmental disabilities is upwards of 90 percent? With numbers that high, the disability community is taking immediate and aggressive action, and The Arc is on the forefront of this effort.
Through our HIRED (Helping Individuals Reach Employment Destinations) program, The Arc is helping those with developmental disabilities find and gain employment in positions that suit their strengths and talents.
Most recently, five people with developmental disabilities have become apprentices at Wegmans Crofton, our community partner, exploring different department and learning useful skills that will be transferable for future work. Not only are these apprentices paid, but they are paid well above the minimum wage (a plus, if you ask us!)
