Captain Collapses At Station While Gearing Up For Fire Call
A 33-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department collapsed on the engine bay floor Sunday while gearing up to leave a call.
PASADENA, MD — A 33-year veteran of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department collapsed Sunday while preparing to battle a house fire in the Jacobsville area. The crew was called out at approximately 12:55 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.
Captain Donald Kelley, 62, serves as company commander of the Lake Shore Fire Station and collapsed while getting his gear on in order to respond to the fire. A fellow firefighter found him unconscious on the engine bay floor and began CPR while calling 911. He was assisted by a volunteer firefighter.
Kelley was transported to Baltimore Washington Medical Center where he remained in the hospital Monday morning.
