Caregiver Educational Workshops To Be Held Around The County
Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities will host a series of caregiver educational workshops beginning in September.
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities will host a series of caregiver educational workshops beginning in September 2019 through June 2019. They are free to attend as part of the National Family Caregiver Support Program, which is part of the department of aging and disabilities.
Topics and dates of the workshop series are:
- "Person Centered Care: What Family Caregivers Need to Know" presented by Nicole Rochester, M.D.: September 26, 2019, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center.
- "Compassionate Touch" presented by Mary Chaput, M.A., Compassionate Touch Coach and Practitioner: October 10, 2019, 1:00-3:00 pm, at the Department of Aging and Disabilities North County/Hein Office.
- "The Different Types of Dementia" presented by Mikki Firor, M.S., Gerontologist: October 24, 2019, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
- "Caregiver Mindfulness" presented by Kim Burton: November 14, 2019, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
- "Stop Asking How Their Day Was: Connecting More Meaningfully with People Who Have Dementia" presented by Jennifer FitzPatrick, MSW, LCSWC, CSP: December 12, 2019, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center.
- "Discover the Programs" presented by the Department of Aging and Disabilities staff: January 9, 2020, 1:00-3:00 pm and 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Department of Aging and Disabilities North County/Hein Office.
- "Anticipatory Grief" presented by Chesapeake Life Center staff: Feb 13, 2020, 1:00-3:00 pm, at the Department of Aging and Disabilities North County/Hein Office.
- "The Mechanics of Caregiving" presented by Ben Ogundip, Physical Therapist: March 26, 2020, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center.
- "Advance Planning: Medical, Legal and Environmental" presented by Elena S. Sallitto, J.D., Eric Bush, M.D., Chauncey Hall, Program Director at ACDS: April 4, 2020, 8:30 am-12:00 pm, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
- "To Travel or Not: 10 Tips for Vacations and Family Trips When You Are Caregiving" presented by Joanna Frankel, MSW, LCSW-C: May 28, 2020, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center.
- "Communicating through Behaviors" presented by Mary Chaput, M.S., Dementia Live Coach and Practitioner: June 25, 2020, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center.
The interactive and experiential "Dementia Live®" workshop, facilitated by department of aging and disabilities staff, will be held at the department's North County/Hein office for family/non-professional caregivers on the following dates:
- September 30, 2019 (6:30-8:30 pm)
- October 17, 2019 (6:30-8:30 pm)
- January 23, 2020 (6:30-8:30 pm)
- March 19, 2020 (6:30-8:30 pm)
- May 21, 2020 (6:30-8:30 pm)
The 2019-2020 workshops are sponsored by Annapolitan Assisted Living, Somerford Place Annapolis, Spring Arbor Assisted Living, HeartHomes Assisted Living and Alzheimer's Care, Staveley & Sallitto Elder Law, Morningside House of Friendship, Brightview Senior Living, Genesis Health Care, ComForCare Home Care and Senior Helpers.
