Chesapeake Bay Middle School Art Students Honored
Artwork by eighth-graders was displayed during a Baltimore Symphony Orchestra event.
The artwork of two students featuring Chesapeake Bay wildlife was chosen for display during a Baltimore Symphony Orchestra event over the weekend.
Eighth-graders Radhika Karsalia and Samantha Nicoletti had their etchings on display in the lobby of the Joseph Myerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore Jan. 26-29. The students’ artwork was chosen to be a part of the orchestra’s featured photos of nature photographer Franz Lanting during the concert, “Life: A Journey Through Time.” The Lanting artwork was displayed on a large screen above the orchestra during the concert.
Chesapeake Bay Middle School art teacher Cheryl Douglas said that schools around Anne Arundel County were invited to participate in this event, and were asked to provide nature themed artwork.

“I had just finished a Rembrandt-inspired etching project that focused on the Chesapeake Bay area,” Douglas said in an e-mail. “While most students chose various landmarks and man-made structures in the area, a few students chose a more wildlife-centered theme. These are the etchings that suited the exhibit perfectly.”
Both Karsalia and Nicoletti etchings featured creatures that one could find along the Chesapeake Bay. Douglas said that both drawings met the necessary specifications and were excellent in quality.
