Chesapeake High School Presents ‘Anything Goes’
The musical is set to open Thursday and run through March 10.

The Theatre Group will present the musical Anything Goes at 7 p.m. March 8-10 in the school’s auditorium.
Anything Goes, set in the early 1930s, tells the story of the crazy antics of passengers onboard the S.S. American as it sails from New York to England.
“It’s a really funny show; it has a lot of humor in it,” said musical director Karen Simmons. “And in the end, everyone ends up with the person that they love. It’s a 'feel good' kind of show.”

According to the show’s program, the musical features a sexy nightclub singer, Reno Sweeney, who assists an old friend, Billy Crocker, a stowaway aboard the ship who is trying to prevent the girl he loves from marrying a British aristocrat.
About 50 Chesapeake High School students are in the cast, and about 20 more students are members of the stage crew. All of the students have been working on the show since January.

“My favorite part of the whole thing is really just watching the kids come together,” said Simmons. “They are all different kinds of kids and they work together to come up with this awesome end project that is totally amazing. That’s the fun part—watching the kids grow on stage and watching them grow personally.”
Show-goers are sure to get a laugh out of this classic; but Simmons said she is most excited for viewers to see the set and dancing.
“When you open the curtain and you see the set, it’s kind of like a two story ship and it is really cool,” said Simmons. “And the tap dancing is awesome. These kids have never tapped before, so to see all these kids come out tap dancing is really cool.”
The show opens Thursday at 7 p.m. and runs through March 10. Tickets are $10 for adults; $8 for students and seniors; and $5 for children younger than 5. Tickets are currently on sale in the main office. For more information, call 410-225-5234.
