Deadline for NHS ‘Soar’ Scholarship Approaching

All applications must be submitted by April 16.

Are you a senior athlete at ? If so, don’t miss out on this scholarship.

The Northeast High School Soar Like an Eagle Scholarship will award $500 to one female and one male senior athlete.

According to the Northeast Athletic Boosters website, the scholarship is intended to recognize the student-athlete who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, dedication and sportsmanship while being a member of his or her team. It also considers the athlete’s contributions with time and participation in giving back to the community.

Additionally, the recipient will also demonstrate solid scholastic performance while a student at Northeast High School, according to the website.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant's parent(s) must be member of the Athletic Boosters.
  • Applicant must be a member of a varsity sports team at Northeast, for at least two full seasons.
  • Applicant should be a graduating senior who is planning to continue his or her education at an institution of higher learning.
  • Applicant should have a minimum 2.0 GPA; must provide high school transcript.
  • Need at least one written recommendation from a coach, teacher or community leader focusing on applicant's strong leadership qualities
, serious work ethic, 
team spirit, 
positive attitude,
 exceptional sportsmanship, community service via volunteerism and extracurricular employment.

The scholarship is funded by the Northeast Athletic Boosters organization.

All applications should be completed and addressed to Gwynn Philhower, president of the NEHS Athletic Boosters, c/o Northeast High School, 1121 Duval Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122. Applications should be postmarked no later than April 16.
