VIDEO: Eagle Cove School Hosts Solar Car Race

In a project with Solar Energy World, students learned about conserving energy by using solar panels.

Race fans gathered at Tuesday morning while students participated in a solar car race.

Students yelled and cheered their cars along while learning about solar energy, thanks to Solar Energy World, a Baltimore-based company that visited the school on Tuesday.

Representatives from the company provided a brief presentation about solar energy and answered questions by students eager to learn about the inner-workings of solar panels.

After the presentation, students from pre-K through fifth grade gathered around the black top for a race. Each grade level built their own solar car and raced them amongst each other.

One race leader from each grade level was responsible for keeping the car on course, and for positioning the adjustable solar panel to face the sun in order to utilize optimal energy.

In a shocking upset, the pre-K/kindergarten car won and earned a class pizza party from Solar Energy World.
