Edgewater Family Stars in New Online Fishing Show

The new show, "Got Bait?", was filmed on Maryland waters.

Unhappy with the quality of fishing shows, Lenny Rudow seized the chance to create the kind of fishing show he wanted when Boats.com offered him the opportunity.

The result is “Got Bait?”, a new online fishing show featuring Rudow and his family, who are Edgewater residents. The show premiered on Aug. 5.

Rudow is a writer for publications like Prop Talk and Maryland Fishing and Hunting Journal and the author of “Rudow’s Guide to Fishing the Chesapeake”.

Although the show is about fishing, it focuses on the livelier aspects of the sport.

“I like to describe it as a combination of Deadliest Catch, Dance Moms, and Top Gear,” Rudow said. “We tried adding in a dash of Honey Boo-boo and a pinch of Jersey Shore, but we toned things down a bit so the cameraman would stop crying.”

The show is filmed in the waters of Maryland and focuses on the family aspect of fishing, Rudow said.

“I really love fishing with my kids,” Rudow said. “When they were babies, my wife and I would take their car seats out and put them in the boat.”

Rudow’s 14-year-old sons, Max and David Rudow, compete against Rudow and a guest angler in a fishing challenge to determine whether bait or lure is better for fishing.

“It’s put together pretty neat,” Rudow said. “The kids compete against the adults and we have a bet where the winners get to watch the losers clean the boat.”

The pilot episode focused on flounder fishing in Maryland’s coastal bays. Highlights of the pilot included fishing quizzes, fishing technique tips and the kids getting up to no good with Dad’s drinking water.

The next episode will feature striped bass in the Chesapeake.

“It’s hard to put it to words,” Rudow said. “There are moments of tension between parents and kids, but fishing creates a great natural bridge between me and my kids and for the moment all the tension goes away.”
