5 Pasadena Students Win Writing Contest

The students from Pasadena schools were named as winners in the county's Young Authors Contest.

 

Five students from Pasadena schools were named winners in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools 2011-2012 Young Authors Contest, according to a release from the school system.

The Anne Arundel County Reading Council reviewed more than 1,000 short stories and poems to find the best young authors in the county. Students from Lake Shore Elementary School, Chesapeake Bay Middle School, and Northeast High School were all named to the Young Authors list.

Judges scored the entries by following a rubric, noting originality and creativity and making sure the students met the guidelines set for the state writing contest.

The first-place winners in each grade level were submitted to the State of Maryland International Reading Association for the statewide Young Authors Contest, according to the release.

The top finishers in each category, as well as their families and teachers, are invited to attend a reception in their honor, according to the release. Elementary students will be recognized March 10 at the . Middle school students will be honored Feb. 29 at . High school winners will receive their certificates during the school day.

Grade 3 – First Abigail McFarland, Lake Shore Elementary

Grade 6 – Third Heather Michaels, Chesapeake Bay Middle School
Grade 11 – First Jessica Fritsch, Northeast High School

Here are the Pasadena winners for essay:
Grade 9 – Second Madison Heinz, Northeast High School
Grade 11 – Second Deanna Bedford, Northeast High School
