Free Cat, Kitten Adoptions In Anne Arundel

More than 2,000 cats and kittens in Maryland are in need of homes.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Free cats! It's no joke. Anne Arundel County Animal Control is participating in the second annual Maryland-wide cat adoption event for the month of July.

More than 2,000 cats and kittens across Maryland are are in need of homes. Through July 31, 20 adoption centers around Maryland are waiving adoption fees in an effort to find homes for these cats.

It's officially "kitten season," a time in the warm summer months many kittens are born.

“Kitten season is a busy time for animal shelters in Maryland,” said Robin Catlett, administrator of Anne Arundel County Animal Control. “This surge of kittens and moms coming into our already full shelters makes it critical that we find them all homes so we can continue to take in other cats and kittens who need our help.”

You can stop by Anne Arundel County Animal Control at 411 Maxwell Frye Road in Millersville to see the cats from Tuesday through Saturday:

  • Tuesday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Wednesday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Friday 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Saturday 10 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Last year, shelters beat their goal of the "Maryland 2,000," by finding homes for 2,395 cats and kittens.
