Governor's Funeral Procession to Create Traffic Delays: Police

Drivers should expect traffic delays Thursday afternoon in the Davidsonville area because of Gov. Marvin Mandel's funeral procession.

Drivers in the Davidsonville area should be prepared for traffic delays Thursday as the funeral procession for former Gov. Marvin Mandel goes through the area.

Mandel, 95, died Sunday after spending the weekend visiting with his family and the family of his former wife, Jeanne Dorsey Mandel, while celebrating the 50th birthday of their son, Paul Dorsey, the family said in a statement.

Gov. Larry Hogan has ordered flags to fly at half-staff in honor of the former governor, and offered his condolences to the Mandel family.

Anne Arundel County Police warn drives to be prepared for traffic delays between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. on Davidsonville Road (MD-424) south of US-50 and West Central Avenue (MD-214).

Gov. Mandel’s funeral will be held at 1 p.m. at Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 W. Central Ave. Police say the funeral procession will travel from Pikesville along I-695, I-97, US-50 westbound, Davidsonville Road, and Central Avenue.

Anne Arundel County Police vehicles will be on hand to assist with traffic control. Drivers may expect minor traffic delays along the route as well as the intersecting roadways and should remain alert to officer’s directions, especially at intersections.
