NHS Student Wins Kamryn Lambert Memorial Scholarship

The Kamryn Lambert Foundation awarded a student with a $3,000 scholarship on Monday evening.

Samantha Calderone won the college scholarship at Northeast High School’s  awards ceremony on Monday night. Calderone will be attending UMBC in the fall, according to Debi Katzenberger, executive director for the Kamryn Lambert Foundation.

Friends and family of Kamryn Lambert, who passed away on Sept. 3, 2007, just short of her ninth birthday, created the Kamryn Lambert Foundation. The family still lives in Pasadena.

Each year, the organization awards a nursing scholarship to a graduating high school senior. According to the foundation’s website, nursing was a field that Kamryn wanted to enter when she grew up. After becoming close with the nurses at the University of Maryland Hospital for Children, Kamryn wanted to be just like them.

“This is our 5th year presenting this award to a student from Northeast High School,” Katzenberger said in an email to Patch. “Since our first award in May of 2008, we have given out over $22,000 in scholarship money.”
