PASADENA, MD — Ed and Helen Lauer, along with their daughters Bernie Snoops and Babbie Poyer, were inducted into the Maryland Retailers Association's Food Industry Council Hall of Fame. An award breakfast honoring them and others was held Nov. 7 in Baltimore.

The Lauers, Snoops and Poyer owned longtime local business Lauer's Supermarket & Bakery. On Sept. 16, the family stunned Anne Arundel County residents when they announced that they would be closing. Ed and Helen Lauer opened the first supermarket in 1974 on Mountain Road in Pasadena.

In 1982, they acquired the Acme Supermarket in Riviera Beach then in 1988 they constructed a bigger store on Edwin Raynor Boulevard to replace the original location. Both locations will continue to operate as independent family supermarkets.
