Officer Pleads Guilty To Stealing Guns, Heads To Jail: County
A former Anne Arundel police officer pleaded guilty to stealing guns, officials said. He will now head to prison, the report added.

PASADENA, MD — A former officer for the Anne Arundel County Police Department pleaded guilty to stealing guns, officials announced last Thursday. An incident report noted that the accused officer faced:
- One count of felony theft
- One count of misconduct in office
The press release added that a judge sentenced the suspect, 27-year-old Jacob Miskill of Linthicum Heights, to 15 years at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center. Authorities mentioned that the felony theft charge prompted 10 of those years, and the misconduct allegation led to the other five.
The write-up explained that a judge suspended all but 18 months of that sentence. That means Miskill will be in prison for 1.5 years, the report indicated. The judge also ordered him to pay $2,000 in restitution and serve five years of probation, officials informed.

The Theft
Miskill and his unidentified partner responded to the 1600 block of Wall Drive in Pasadena for a reported heart incident on April 27, 2020, the release stated. Authorities wrote that they found a man, who medics soon pronounced dead on the scene, and an unnamed witness.
Police couldn't find the man's closest living relative, but they reported that Miskill reached out to the witness the next day. Miskill told the witness that he wanted to collect the victim's guns for safekeeping, officials alleged.

The write-up accused Miskill, who was in uniform, of loading the weapons into his marked police car. The county said the witness helped Miskill without knowing that was not part of the investigation.
The report shared that the witness also saw cash, a Rolex watch, a bracelet and assorted jewelry in a safe inside the victim's home before his death. The witness and the victim's sister later found the safe empty, authorities clarified.
The witness thinks Miskill returned to the residence to steal the goods, the release divulged. Investigators detailed that they retrieved 19 firearms from Miskill's home, including handguns and rifles. All the victim's jewelry and guns were eventually returned or located, the write-up concluded.
