Pasadena Student Finalist for BOE Seat

A student at Chesapeake High School is one of three finalists for the Anne Arundel County Board of Education student member.

Jake Ritterpusch, an 11th grader at Chesapeake High School, is one of three students in the running to be named the 2012-2013 student member of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education, according to a release from a school spokesman.

Eight Anne Arundel County students applied for the position and the board has narrowed its list of potential applicants to three.

The Student Member on the Board of Education is elected by the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils and appointed by the governor.

The student member serves a one-year term during his or her senior year of high school, and receives a $6,000 college scholarship. Anne Arundel’s student member is the only one in the nation on a local Board of Education with full voting rights, according to the release.

The two other finalists for the position are Sean Cooley from Severna Park High School and Nick Lefavor from Old Mill High School.

The three finalists will participate in a Candidates Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 29 in the Board Room of the Parham Building, 2644 Riva Rd., Annapolis.

Elections to determine the candidate whose name will be forwarded to the governor for appointment will take place on March 26.
