Pasadena Winner To Surprise Family At Holidays

A Pasadena man who won more than $14K says he'll let his family know about his good fortune over the holidays.

PASADENA, MD — An Anne Arundel County man says his Lottery luck all came down to timing. The 36-year-old construction worker popped into the Pasadena Dash In for a few Racetrax wagers and came out a big winner. On his final race, he won $14,581, according to a Maryland Lottery news release.

When the horses rounded the track on the last of five races, the tumblers of luck began to turn for the Pasadena resident. Moments later, each of the four horses crossed the finish line in order — 8, 10, 2 and 4 — to send him to the Lottery Winner’s Circle. The approximate odds of the win are just over one in 21,000.

As the results and the payouts flashed across the screen, the lucky handicapper said he couldn’t believe the payout. He described his reaction as being so stunned that his eyes began to flutter and twitch.

“The numbers I picked were just random. Timing is just the name of the game,” he told Lottery officials.

The anonymous winner calmed his nerves and confirmed his prize on a Lottery ticket scanner before leaving the store.

The player, who doesn’t plan to share news of his good fortune, told Lottery officials that friends and family would find out around the holidays. For now, his winnings will go in the bank.

His Lottery retailer also shares in the win. Dash In at 103 Mountain Road in Pasadena earns a $145 bonus from the Lottery for selling a winning Racetrax ticket of $10,000 or more. The bonus is equal to 1 percent of the prize.
