Playing Ball at the Riviera Beach 12U Select Girls Fastpitch Softball Team Tryouts
As the school year begins it's time for contenders for a spot on the Riviera Beach 12U Select Girls Fastpitch Softball Team to play ball!
“Play ball!” is the phrase heard around the world for select fastpitch softball players of all ages. This weekend was no different only those were the two words said by the coach at the 12U Select Girls Fastpitch Softball tryouts.
What started out as a partly sunny day ended up in rain as young female athletes ages 10-12 stood proud and poised to pitch their best at the tryouts. Parents, mostly dads, were eagerly watching their little girls give their all in competition for a spot on the 12U Riviera Beach Select Girls Fastpitch Softball team.
Coach Linda McGinnis made sure that each player felt comfortable by engaging in brief conversation and then watching each carefully from the sidelines during the drills. From setup to formation and throughout all of the drills it was clear that these youth were indeed softball professionals.

With a strong background in softball as both an athlete and a coach, McGinnis knows exactly what she’s looking for in a player.
“Be confident,” she said when asked about advice she’d give potential players. “Confidence is a big plus."

If any of the competitors were nervous, it did not show. Each girl was indeed a pro and stepped to the plate with the finesse and savoir faire of an athlete who had been playing softball for several years.
The Riviera Beach 12U Select Girls Fastpitch Softball Team participates in a number of tournaments 2-3 times per month throughout the year. From fallball to the 2012 World Series the Riviera Beach 12U Select Girls Fastpitch Softball Team is definitely one to watch. While they hold tryouts once a year in August, McGinnis encourages parents to contact her.
“Parents can feel free to contact me if their daughter has an interest in select softball,” she said cheerfully.
