Police Unity Tour To Pass Through Anne Arundel, Local Police Join
The event raises awareness for law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD -- Chapter One of the Police Unity Tour will pass through Anne Arundel County on May 12. The annual tour is in recognition of law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. It begins in New Jersey and ends in Washington, D.C. during Police Week.
This year, three Anne Arundel County cops will travel with Chapter One through the county. They are Sergeant Smith, Corporal Daughters and Corporal Mahan (pictured above).
According to the Unity Tour's website, the primary purpose of the tour is to raise awareness for law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and the secondary purpose is to raise funds for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial and Museum.

Last year, in May, the tour saw nearly 2,000 members across the country make the 235-mile bike trip. Members must pay a $150 registration fee and raise at least $1,850 for the ride for a total of $2,000 per rider. The Police Unity Tour's event last year allowed them to make a donation of $2.3 million.
On May 9, riders will undergo bike assembly, a medical check-in and a safety meeting. They'll begin the ride on May 10 in Somerset, NJ and ride to Philadelphia, about 70 miles away.

On May 11, they'll ride from Philadelphia to Baltimore, about 50 miles. Then, on May 12, riders will ride from Baltimore to Washington, D.C., passing through Anne Arundel County on the way.
The Anne Arundel County Police Department shared their route and spots along the way where residents can come out to show support.
Leaving West Street in Annapolis at 9:00 a.m., they will ride to Defense Highway, Route 3/301, and Route 450 into Prince George's County. They recommend citizens in the Southern District who want to see the tour go to the side parking lot of the Best Buy on Defense Highway and Housely, and those in the Western District go to the parking lot at the corner of Routes 450 and 424, near the gas station.
