A man was shot at a memorial service in Glen Burnie, police said. The gunfire rang out during a fight.

GLEN BURNIE, MD — A man was shot at a Glen Burnie memorial service, police announced Tuesday.

Officers said the victim was hospitalized, but they expect him to survive.

Authorities said the shooting happened Monday around 7:45 p.m. in the unit block of Brooks Terrace Road.

Police said they saw a large crowd and found the man outside suffering from a gunshot wound.

Medics took the victim to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, officers said.

Authorities said they learned that a memorial service was held for the recently deceased owner of the house.

Police said a fight broke out during the service, and an unknown suspect shot the victim before running away.

Officers are still investigating.
