State Calls For Commentary on BGE Storm Performance

Maryland wants to hear from Pasadena residents about how Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) handled power restoration .

A public hearing will be held in Annapolis at the joint hearing room of the  at 90 State Circle at 7 p.m. on Aug. 13, according to a press release from the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC).  

The PSC, which regulates BGE, is reviewing how the utility company preformed in its power restoration efforts, according to CBS Baltimore.

The company had three weeks from the storm's date to provide the commission with a detailed report, and PSC can impose fines or require utility companies to make improvements as a result of its investigation.

It took BGE employees  to restore power to the 748,000 customers, including 93,000 in , whose lights went out as a result of the violent derecho storm.

Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold was among a handful of county leaders who signed a letter earlier this month asking PSC to require utility companies to make operational improvements including the burial of power lines.

The Annapolis hearing is one of 10 being held statewide on BGE's performance and the performance of three other utility companies.

The PSC also accepts written comments, which should be sent by Sept. 10 to the commission at 6 St. Paul St., 16th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202.
