Wanted: Socially Savvy Volunteers for Hospice Hundred

Help raise money and fun for Chesapeake Kids pediatric program.

It’s really a win-win kind of volunteer gig.

You get to throw a party. You get to invite all your friends and meet some new friends. And you get to help raise tens of thousands of dollars for sick or grieving children.

That’s what Hospice Hundred committee volunteers do when working to support Chesapeake Kids, a program service of Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Hospice of the Chesapeake created Hospice Hundred to educate the next generation of philanthropists about the many programs provided by the nonprofit and to develop financial resources to support those programs. Hospice Hundred helps accomplish these goals by hosting a variety of fun annual events, including Fashion for a Cause, Bowie Baysox Chesapeake Kids Night, Santa Con and other social events.

There is an immediate need for volunteers to help prepare for the eighth annual Fashion for a Cause taking place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 12 at Porsche of Annapolis. This is the hottest runway spectacular in Annapolis that is attended by hundreds and the committee’s most significant fundraiser. Hospice Hundred volunteers have a love for event planning or helping the planners make things happen. This includes including registration of attendees, set-up and preparation of auction items and other displays, and coming up with creative decor and themes for events. Other desired skills include attention to detail and the kind of outgoing personality that gives one the confidence to approach community members for support and to act as an ambassador for the program.

The committee meets monthly, though attendance at all meetings is not required as detailed notes are sent out with requests for specific tasks. Tasks include securing auction items and soliciting donations of cash and in-kind support, including sponsorships or donations of in-kind services such as food, photography and beverages.

In 2015, Hospice Hundred helped raise more than $100,000 dollars and provided nine innings of memories with the Baysox for the young families who benefit from Chesapeake Kids. You can be a part of that feel good success. To volunteer, contact Volunteer Coordinator Allison Kuchar at akuchar@hospicechesapeake.org or 443-837-1513.
