Warning: Semester Break Could Change with More Weather Cancelations

If bad weather forces school to be called off next week in Anne Arundel County, it could affect the semester break at the end of the month.

Superintendent George Arlotto Thursday reminded parents of all Anne Arundel County Public Schools students that the semester break for students – now scheduled for Jan. 26 and 27 – could shift if there is inclement weather that forces schools to close next week.

The school system calendar calls for four consecutive days of high school semester exams for high school students on the days preceding the break. Thus, if inclement weather forces a closing of schools on any of the testing days – Jan. 20 through 23 – the semester break will be shifted forward accordingly.

Should inclement weather force a closing on one of the exam dates, the schedule will be shifted but exams will still be administered in the order listed above.

Should inclement weather force a two-hour delay on one of the exam dates, all schools will open two hours late and close at their normal time. The high school exam schedule will remain intact.

There will be no classes for half-day, afternoon prekindergarten, or ECI students from January 20-23. Morning half-day sessions will be held as scheduled, but will be canceled if schools open two hours late on any day next week.
