5 Hospitalized from Beltway Crash Near Washington Boulevard: Officials

The inner loop of Interstate 695 was temporarily closed for collision near I-95.

All lanes of I-695 on the inner loop were closed for more than an hour Thursday due to a crash on the southwest corner of the Baltimore beltway, according to transportation officials.

Six vehicles were involved in the crash, which occurred at 10:50 a.m. on Interstate 695 before the exit for I-95, state transportation officials reported.

Five people were taken for medical treatment from the scene, according to Baltimore County public safety officials, in an update at approximately 11:45 a.m.

As of 12:10 p.m., lanes began reopening, with the crash moved to the left shoulder and left lane, according to officials. Three lanes of travel were open after 12:10 p.m.

Baltimore County sent 12 crews to the scene, including hazardous materials personnel due to possible fluid and debris in the road, officials reported.

A fuel spill was involved, according to WNEW.
