Maryland State Police Target 3 Highways on Labor Day Weekend

Impaired and aggressive drivers, be warned; more troopers are out for holiday enforcement.

Labor Day weekend can be deadly, so Maryland State Police will be dedicating more resources to patrolling area highways over the holiday, according to a statement from the agency.

Dozens of additional troopers will be saturating the following state roads, keeping watch for aggressive and impaired driving, among other violations, the statement said:

  • Interstate 95 across Maryland, from the Virginia to Delaware state lines
  • US Route 50 from Anne Arundel County to Ocean City
  • US Route 13 in Wicomico, Somerset and Worcester Counties

DUI checkpoints and speed patrols may also be in effect in other areas throughout the state.

“As we continue to focus on the reduction of fatalities and serious injuries due to motor vehicle crashes statewide, troopers will take action by locating and arresting impaired drivers as we work to keep Maryland roads safe during the holiday weekend,” Col. Marcus L. Brown, superintendent of the Maryland State Police, said.

The Maryland Transportation Authority, which oversees the toll facilities, will also be targeting aggressive driving between Maryland and DC from Aug. 31 to Sept. 6. Aggressive driving includes speeding, improper passing, weaving and tailgating.
