Warfield’s 11 K’s, Home Run Surge, Lead Vikings to First State Semifinal Since ’98

Lansdowne knocks five balls over the fence, to pull away from top-seeded Digital Harbor in 2A North championship, 10-5.

In Friday afternoon’s 2A North final against Digital Harbor, Lansdowne hitters didn’t take very long to get adjusted to the friendly confines of Swann Park in southwest Baltimore.

The Vikings relied on the long ball to get up early on the Rams and eventually pull away. Five different players homered—including back-to-back-to-back shots from Alex Kurth, Mike Morris and Sam Warfield in the top of the seventh—and Warfield buckled down to get key outs on the mound en route to a 10-5 win.

Ahead 7-5 in the top of the seventh—after homers by Brian Kummerlowe and Brad Childress (a two-run shot) paced the Vikings early—Lansdowne’s trio of blasts handed Warfield all the insurance he’d need.
