Baltimore, MD (April 22, 2026) — If your car battery is more than three-years-old, now might be the most eco-friendly time of year to replace it.
AAA Club Alliance launched its 15th annual Batteries for Trees campaign, committing to plant one tree for every car battery replaced by its Emergency Roadside Service team or at any AAA Car Care location, now through Thursday, April 30,up to a total of 12,500 trees in 2026.
Since 2011, AAA Club Alliance’s Batteries for Trees initiative, through the Arbor Day Foundation, has funded the planting of more than 71,500 trees in National Forests across the country. This year, the campaign is expected to bring the total contribution to 84,000 trees as part of AAA’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
“For 15 years, Batteries for Trees has given AAA Members a simple way of turning routine car maintenance into making a meaningful environmental impact,” says Amber Zionkowski, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at AAA Club Alliance. “Each car battery replacement helps grow stronger National Forests and supports the well-being of future generations.”
In addition to the car battery recycling initiative, customers who visit any AAA Retail store or AAA Car Care center can also help plant a tree by donating $1 or more.
Every Day is Earth Day at AAA
Eco-friendly business practices are a top priority for AAA year-round. As an example, 100 percent of car batteries replaced by AAA are recycled. This critical practice has significant environmental benefits, including the reduction of toxic waste and the unnecessary creation of new materials.
The organization also empowers its Members to transition towards cleaner transportation solutions. AAA.com offers a rich resource to support anyone considering the purchase of an electric vehicle (EV) and those who have already made the investment. The organization’s EV microsite helps Members weigh the pros and cons of EV ownership, choose the EV that best meets their needs and then manage the EV experience once they buy.
An Expanding Fleet of “Green” Machines
For several years, AAA has been expanding its fleet of vehicles powered by alternative fuels, including propane, electric, hybrid and compressed natural gas vehicles. Today, AAA operates more than 80 alternative fuel service trucks across its fleet.
These green service trucks use electricity and renewable natural gas, which helps offset AAA’s carbon footprint by more than 300 tons of carbon dioxide each year compared with fossil natural gas.
