July episodes of MPT’s Chesapeake Collectibles feature captivating treasures and intriguing stories

Maryland Public Television’s popular original series Chesapeake Collectibles, in its 13^th season, continues in July with two new episodes featuring captivating treasures and the intriguing stories attached to each item.

Chesapeake Collectibles’ new episodes will be broadcast on MPT and available on the MPT livestream on Mondays at 7:30 p.m., immediately preceding the acclaimed PBS series Antiques Roadshow. Encore broadcasts of episodes air on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on MPT2 and the MPT2 livestream.

One of MPT’s most successful flagship series, Chesapeake Collectibles, showcases items from around the world brought to the show by individuals from across the Chesapeake region. During each episode, passionate collectors have their unique, antique, and collectible possessions evaluated by expert appraisers, who reveal fascinating facts about each item’s history, provenance, and value.

Here are summaries of the series’ July episodes:

Episode 6 (premieres July 6): During episode six, appraisers uncover remarkable pieces of history and art. Highlights include a rare 19th-century folk portrait of a young girl and a stunning yellow Grueby art pottery vase found at a thrift store for only three dollars. The episode also features an extraordinary collection of 300 vintage purses spanning several decades. And finally, a former U.S. Navy pilot shares a historic, signed flight plan and photos from NASA’s Apollo 7 recovery mission.

Episode 7 (premieres July 13): In this episode, appraisers reveal the history behind a diverse array of unique artifacts. Viewers will learn the incredible story of World War II B-17 tail gunner James King, featuring the forged identity documents he used to evade capture in occupied France. The episode also showcases a New England silver creamer with deep family lineage, vibrant outsider art from the "Baltimore Glassman," a stunning multi-generational jewelry collection featuring Cartier and Tiffany pieces, and a symbolic 1906 German tapestry.

Part two of the series’ 13^th season, comprised of six new episodes, will premiere on MPT in January 2027 in conjunction with Antiques Roadshow’s season premiere.

Chesapeake Collectibles launched its YouTube page in June. Here, fans of the series will find segments from past seasons, behind-the-scenes videos, and the digital series Tales from the Table, in which appraisers discuss their history with the show and recount their favorite experiences.
