Cooler weather has finally returned to Maryland, and so will multiple chances of rain and thunderstorms later this week and heading into the weekend, according to the latest forecasts.
Ahead of any severe weather, Wednesday should be cooler but muggy, with mostly cloudy conditions and a high temperature in the low 80s. A few showers and a thunderstorm are possible overnight.
Storm chances return Thursday and so does a brief warmup, according to the National Weather Service.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of Maryland under a Marginal Risk for severe weather on Thursday as a new warm front moves into the state. According to forecasts, thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon and evening hours, with some potentially becoming severe. Damaging wind gusts could occur with any storms that form, forecasters said.
According to Capital Weather forecasters, the Baltimore region should also expect plenty of clouds on Thursday, but warmer and more humid conditions with highs in the mid- to upper 80s.
"Scattered showers and storms may continue into part of the evening," Capital Weather wrote. "Skies should partially clear overnight with lows again in the upper 60s to mid-70s."
On Friday, showers are likely and the region could see additional thunderstorms after 2 p.m. as a cold front moves in. Chances continue into the evening and overnight hours.
According to the National Weather Service, repeated rounds of showers and thunderstorms may bring heavy rain to parts of the region. Isolated flash flooding is possible, with the main risk being in urban areas and spots that received heavy rain earlier this week.
