Baltimore run club transforming former Charm City Meadworks taproom into community café (wmar2news.com) — A Baltimore run club called the Neighborhood Runners is turning the former Charm City Meadworks taproom in East Baltimore's Johnson's Square into a community café by late 2026. Neighbors are already pitching in, and the group will host a Sept. 26 crab feast fundraiser to support the renovation and create a welcoming hub for healthy food and connection.
   

2. Baltimore ranks No. 2 in violence prevention as city develop... (afro.com) — Baltimore has been ranked among the top cities nationally for violence prevention, and officials are now crafting the next Community Violence Prevention Plan to guide efforts through 2031. Residents are being asked to weigh in on strategies like Group Violence Reduction, housing support for returning citizens, youth diversion, and improving trust between police and neighborhoods.
   

3. Opera Baltimore is bringing communities together with new Voices in Solidarity festival on Aug 30 (wmar2news.com) — Baltimore residents can head to Jonestown on Sunday, Aug. 30, for a new Voices in Solidarity festival celebrating Black and Jewish operatic history through performances, tours, and a concert at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum. Led by Opera Baltimore with local museum partners, the free day-long event aims to spark honest conversations about shared history, healing, and civic pride across the city.
   

4. On-Duty Baltimore Cop Allegedly Raped Woman at Home After Giving Her a Ride (miamiherald.com) — Authorities say a Baltimore police officer has been arrested and denied bond after DNA evidence allegedly linked him to the rape of a woman he'd driven home to Edgewood while on duty. Investigators believe there may be similar offenses and note the officer has been suspended without pay as the case proceeds through Harford County courts.
   

5. Baltimore County police monitor Towson nightlife crowd (wbaltv.com) — Baltimore County police kept a close eye on downtown Towson's nightlife this first weekend back for college students after a midweek gathering led to arrests and business concerns. Officers increased foot and vehicle patrols along York Road while local leaders debate whether a new safety plan is needed to prevent disruptive crowds behind shops.
