(afro.com) — Baltimore County leaders are weighing whether to extend a moratorium on new data centers, with Councilman Jones backing more study of water, energy, and electric bill impacts. As he campaigns for county executive, he argues data centers can boost tax revenue without sacrificing vulnerable communities, while critics warn certain neighborhoods could bear the brunt of development decisions.
3. New facilities at Port of Baltimore allow farmers to easily export grain, cut out offsite loading (tristatealert.com) — A new grain transloading facility at the Port of Baltimore's Seagirt terminal will let farm trucks unload directly into on-site silos, cutting out offsite container loading. State officials say this will lower costs, reduce truck emissions, and boost exports of corn, soybeans, and wheat. The project strengthens Baltimore's role as a key agricultural shipping hub.
4. Man shot by ICE on Christmas Eve in Glen Burnie freed after nearly 9 months in detention (thebaltimorebanner.com) — A Portuguese man shot by ICE agents in Glen Burnie on Christmas Eve has been released from detention after nearly nine months and reunited with his family. Now living in a home he bought in Baltimore, he and advocacy group CASA say they're grateful for his freedom while still pressing federal officials over his treatment and the shooting that injured him.
