Thunderstorms could interrupt an otherwise hot and humid Thursday across Maryland, with the Baltimore region facing its best chance of storms later in the day and into Thursday night.
A slow-moving cold front will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms to the region beginning Thursday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures are expected to climb to around 90 degrees before the front arrives.
Around Baltimore, rain chances increase after about 2 p.m., with thunderstorms becoming more likely Thursday evening and overnight.
The most likely window for thunderstorms across the broader Baltimore-Washington region is roughly 4 to 9 p.m., although showers and storms could continue well into Thursday night.
While an isolated strong or severe storm is possible, forecasters said the overall threat for severe weather is limited. Gusty to potentially damaging winds and hail would be the primary threats from any storm that becomes severe.
The best chance for a stronger storm appears to be south of Baltimore, particularly across southern Maryland and into central Virginia.
Baltimore itself has about a 30 percent chance of showers Thursday, increasing to 70 percent Thursday night.
Friday should offer a break, with partly sunny skies and highs around 82 degrees after any lingering early showers move out.
Rain chances return Saturday, particularly during the afternoon and evening. Showers are likely Saturday night, and a thunderstorm is possible. Highs should remain near 82.
Sunday looks somewhat better but not completely dry. A few showers are possible, with an isolated afternoon thunderstorm and highs around 85 degrees.
Forecasters said the risk of severe weather this weekend is low, although a stronger storm with gusty winds cannot be ruled out.
