A taste of summer returned to the Baltimore region Thursday, bringing temperatures near 90 degrees, higher humidity and a chance for afternoon and evening thunderstorms before cooler weather arrives.
According to the National Weather Service, scattered showers and storms are expected to move east across Maryland during the afternoon.
Capital Weather said storms were already moving through parts of Frederick, northern Montgomery and Howard counties early Thursday afternoon, with additional hit-or-miss showers and storms possible into the evening.
In the Baltimore area, the best chance for storms will come during the second half of the afternoon into early evening, with activity generally winding down a few hours after sunset.
Any stronger storm could produce gusty winds, but widespread severe weather is not expected. Baltimore is forecast to reach about 89 degrees Thursday, with the added humidity making it feel warmer.
A cold front moving through overnight will bring a noticeable change Friday. Baltimore should see mostly sunny skies, lower humidity and highs in the mid-80s before temperatures fall into the 60s Friday night.
Saturday looks like the better outdoor day of the weekend, with cooler temperatures around 80 degrees and mainly dry conditions expected around Baltimore.
Rain chances return Sunday as warmer and more humid air moves back into the region. The Weather Service expects showers to become more likely Sunday afternoon, with thunderstorms also possible. Highs should reach the low to mid-80s.
