Today's riddle: What has a cap but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. From access cut to access restored: What's next in Baltimore's OIG fight (foxbaltimore.com) — Baltimore's inspector general has regained full access to city systems after months of courtroom battles with Mayor Brandon Scott's administration over subpoenas and records, but an appeal is still pending. Now the big unresolved issue for residents is how much this legal fight, including outside attorneys hired by the city, will ultimately cost Baltimore taxpayers and whether the administration will keep pursuing its case.
2. Jury seated in Baltimore fire case that killed 3 firefighters (wbaltv.com) — A jury has been seated for next week's trial over the January 2022 South Stricker Street rowhome fire that collapsed and killed three Baltimore firefighters and badly injured another. Prosecutors say surveillance video and forensic analysis link the defendant to intentionally setting the blaze, with opening statements scheduled for Oct. 5 and testimony expected over three weeks.
3. Baltimore Museum of Art exhibit explores 185 years of city history through photography (cbsnews.com) — A major new exhibit at the Baltimore Museum of Art opens Oct. 4, tracing 185 years of city history through more than 200 photographs made in Baltimore. Curators highlight community-centered work, from early studios to images of Frederick Douglass and the 2015 uprising, aiming to give residents a richer, more human view of their own city.
4. Baltimore Ravens Crucial Catch game honors cancer survivors (wbaltv.com) — Sunday's Baltimore Ravens game against the Tennessee Titans will serve as the team's Crucial Catch matchup, spotlighting cancer prevention and honoring survivors on the field. Fourteen-year-old leukemia survivor and JV soccer player Hudson Gatton will ring the bell and help unfurl the U.S. flag alongside more than 30 MedStar Health patients, guests, and cancer care workers, including his nurse mom.
5. Guinness came to Baltimore County with big hopes. It leaves with unanswered questions. (thebaltimorebanner.com) — Guinness is closing its Open Gate Brewery in Halethorpe on Nov. 1, costing 174 on-site jobs and ending a high-profile tourism draw just outside Baltimore. Local officials and brewers say the shutdown highlights industry headwinds but could also spur residents to support smaller Maryland breweries as the county works with Diageo on the site's future and the fate of Baltimore Blonde.
