$100K Lottery Win Allows Bel Air Couple To Retire For Good
A Bel Air couple can finally fully retire after winning $100,000 in the Aug. 31 Powerball drawing.

BEL AIR, MD — A Bel Air couple can ride off into the sunset, finally fully retired, after winning $100,000 in the Aug. 31 Powerball drawing.
The pair, going by the nickname “Leather & Lace” for their love of motorcycles, claimed two third-tier prizes won on one ticket, according to a Maryland Lottery news release.
The husband bought the $8 ticket the day before the drawing at Redner’s Warehouse Markets, 2126 North Fountain Green Road in Bel Air. When he later checked the ticket, the Harford County resident realized that he won a prize, but didn’t understand how much it was. A store clerk solved the mystery.

“When I scanned, I saw the number ‘100’ but it quickly disappeared so I thought it was $100,” the husband told Lottery officials. “Then, the clerk checked it and said it was $100,000. I was shocked.”
The 68-year-old went home to tell his wife about the win.

“He was holding the ticket in front of me but did not say a word. I asked him what he was telling me,” she said.
His message was simple. They won $100,000 when their ticket matched four of the five Powerball numbers, including the Power Ball, on two lines.
“Leather & Lace” told Lottery staff they plan to put the winnings toward a new roof at their home and fully retire. One member of the team is a semi-retired service worker and the other already retired from the banking industry and works part time in retail.
