11 Bel Air Students Named 2020 Carson Scholars

The Bel Air students will receive college scholarships in recognition of their academic and humanitarian work.

BEL AIR, MD — Several Bel Air students received the honor of being named 2020 Carson Scholars. The scholarship program recognizes students who have a track record of academic excellence and participation in community service.

Students in 4th through 11th grades were eligible for the honor, and they had to be nominated by a current educator. Only one student from each school could be nominated.

Here are the first-time Carson Scholars from Bel Air for 2020:

  • James Coles III, Grade: 5; Prospect Mill Elementary School, Bel Air
  • Abigail Wagner, Grade: 11; Patterson Mill High School, Bel Air

Carson Scholars receive a $1,000 college scholarship award, an Olympic-sized medal and a trophy for their school.

Carson Scholars must have a minimum GPA of 3.75 and display humanitarian qualities through community service.

Recognized Carson Scholars have renewed their Carson Scholar status by maintaining high academic standards and a strong commitment to their communities.

Here are the recognized Carson Scholars for 2020 from Bel Air:

  • Jamie Hanson, Grade: 10; C. Milton Wright High School, Bel Air
  • Allison McDonald, Grade: 8; Bel Air Middle School, Bel Air
  • Anne Newberry, Grade: 8; Southampton Middle School, Bel Air
  • Jenna Ritz, Grade: 7; Southampton Middle School, Bel Air
  • Rachel Shetterly, Grade: 12; Harford Technical High School, Bel Air
  • Ryan Skandalis, Grade: 9; The John Carroll School, Bel Air
  • Jason Vera, Grade: 11; C. Milton Wright High School, Bel Air
  • Elizabeth Wesdock, Grade: 12; C. Milton Wright High School, Bel Air

Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and humanitarian qualities without regard to financial need, ethnicity, creed or religion.
