13-Year-Old Suffers Cardiac Arrest, Illustrating Need For 1st Aid Training
A 13-year-old suffered cardiac arrest at a Harford Co. ice rink last month. On Saturday, residents were trained in 1st aid to help others.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A 13-year-old girl went into cardiac arrest at a local ice rink Dec. 20. Her story has a happy ending because she was saved by staff who performed CPR immediately and defibrillated her.
The teen is alive because of those emergency efforts, Amanda Joy, an emergency room physician assistant and paramedic, told WBAL.
This past weekend, local lacrosse coaches who also are health professionals taught residents of Joppatowne techniques that could save a life during a game or in another emergency situation. Inside Harford County's Millstad Center, people learned several emergency procedures Saturday, including CPR, how to use an automated external defibrillator or AED, "Stop the Bleed" steps and naloxone administration. Fallston girls lacrosse coaches have been pushing for this training to happen.
